Yerba Mate Gourds and Cups
We offer a variety of mate gourds. Each mate cup was designed with a specific purpose: to be a real piece of art, provide a delicate wood flavor and to preserve the yerba flavor! All of our mates are sourced from Argentine Artisans. Hand made, painted, hammered and each one created as a labor of love.
Gourds:
Are the mate cup of choice! Made of calabash some are a true piece of art and the most popular choice among mate tea drinkers. Gourds need to be cured before they are used in order to prevent cracking and mold growth. Instructions for curing are provided in each order.
They absorb some of the tea flavors during use, these gourds have high flavor enhancing properties that allow them to improve the taste of the yerba mate tea blends.
Wood:
Wood gourds are also perfect for beginners, as they are durable, easy to clean, don’t need to be cured before the first use and have a flat bottom for added stability. Made from Algarrobo.
Glass and Ceramic:
Both glass and ceramic mate cups are easy to clean and have a nice look. They fit better in your hand while the curve holds mate much like the traditional gourd. Typically lead free and dishwasher safe.
Plastic and Metal:
For the person on the go! Great to travel with in the car and on hikes or simply prefer the convenience of modern materials. These cups usually come in the shape of a travel mug, some with handles, lids and are spill proof and durable.
